Pay less upfront and less to run

The grant and 0% VAT cut the price, and the right tariff cuts your bills.

  • Get up to £9,000 off with the government grant.
  • Pay no VAT on the installation until March 2027.
  • Cut your heating bills with a tariff made for heat pumps.
  • Never worry about oil or LPG prices again.
  • Stop paying the gas standing charge of over £100 a year.

How much can you save by switching to a heat pump?

It depends on how your home is heated now. Here are the Energy Saving Trust's estimates.

From a gas boiler

Save up to£530a year

with a heat pump tariff.

Or £220 on a standard tariff.

From an oil boiler

Save up to£460a year

with a heat pump tariff.

Or £260 on a standard tariff.

From an LPG boiler

Save up to£1,050a year

with a heat pump tariff.

Or £780 on a standard tariff.

From electric heating

Save up to£1,400a year

with a heat pump tariff.

Or £1,200 on a standard tariff.

Energy Saving Trust estimates for an average three-bed semi replacing an older system, at July 2026 prices. Newer boilers save less, and the gas and LPG tariff figures assume the gas supply is disconnected.

ASHP and Water Cylinder Installation

Neil Ring and his colleague James have been ideal to work with on my new build house. Neil’s initial involvement to when the work started took over a year. He worked well with my builder to co-ordinate the installment of a Mitsubishi air source heat pump and new water cylinder.

I supplied the EPC certificate and Neil arranged for the Ofgen grant, gave me a heads up when I had to complete an on-line form on gov.uk and he promply provided the guarantees and building regs compliance certificate afterwards. James returned once the building contract finished to walk me through all the controls, explained about checking the pressure gauge from time to time, who to contact for annual servicing and checking the thermostat controls in the house. Most importantly he explained how the new system would differ from the gas boiler, hot water tank and immersion heater in the loft in my previous house.

As for the heat pump the sound when it’s operating is not very audible and my neighbour, who was concerned about the noise it would create when he was out in his garden, didn’t realise it was up and running for a fortnight when we spoke about it after installation. I highly recommend Neil Ring to anyone considering an air source heat pump.

We are Arc Home

Arc Home is a Hertfordshire installer that designs, supplies and fits heat pumps and air conditioning for local homes. We are MCS accredited, and our own engineers do the work from the first survey to the day we hand over.

We started out working for developers, where the standard has to be right first time. Now we bring the same approach to homeowners across St Albans, Harpenden and the villages around them.

  • Our own engineers, not subcontractors
  • MCS accredited installer
  • Based in Hertfordshire, working in the AL postcodes

Checked, sized and fitted by the Arc Home team

A heat pump only saves you money if it's the right size and fitted properly, so we get both right before anything is ordered.

We check your grant before you commit

We look at your Energy Performance Certificate and tell you on the survey whether you get £7,500 or £9,000. The grant comes off your quote, so you never pay the full price and wait to claim it back.

Sized to your home, not guessed

We work out how much heat each room loses before we choose the heat pump, so it keeps you warm in January without being oversized and costing more to run.

Radiators, cylinder and underfloor heating by one team

A heat pump usually means a new hot water cylinder and sometimes a few larger radiators. We do all of it, so you're not left coordinating three different firms.

We show you how to use it

Once your system is running we walk you through the controls and what to keep an eye on, and explain how it differs from the boiler you're used to.

Heat pump questions, answered

If yours isn't here, ask us on the survey or give us a ring.

How much is the grant, and will I get it?
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme gives you £7,500 off an air source heat pump. If your home is heated by oil or LPG and has no mains gas connection, you get an extra £1,500 until March 2027, so £9,000 in total. You need a valid Energy Performance Certificate, and new builds usually don't qualify. We check all of this on the survey before you commit to anything.
What will it cost to run compared with gas?
That depends on how well your home holds heat and which electricity tariff you're on. A well-designed heat pump gives out around three units of heat for every unit of electricity it uses, and some tariffs made for heat pumps cut the cost further. We give you a running-cost estimate for your home with your quote.
How noisy is it?
Modern outdoor units are quiet. One of our customers told us her neighbour, who had been worried about the noise, didn't realise her heat pump was running for a fortnight. We also place the unit away from bedroom windows and your boundary.
Will it work in an older house?
It usually does. A heat pump runs at a lower temperature than a boiler, so a few rooms may need a larger radiator. We tell you exactly which ones on the survey, rather than replacing radiators that are already fine.
Do I need planning permission?
Most houses don't, because an air source heat pump usually counts as permitted development. Flats, listed buildings and some homes in conservation areas can be different, and we check this on the survey.
What happens on the survey?
We look at your current heating, your radiators, where the outdoor unit and cylinder could go, and your Energy Performance Certificate. Then we send you a fixed quote with the grant taken off. The survey is free, and there's no obligation to go ahead.
